We here at Runaway are so excited! We will be the first store where Dina Wakley teaches in 2019 using her new products released in the middle of January.

Dina will be at Runaway on Thursday, Feb. 21, Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019.

You will find out the basic information bout her classes below, with more details on the class descriptions pages. Let us know which classes you’d like to take. If you take all of the classes, Christy will have a goodie bag for you to take home on the first day of class.

“IT FIGURES”

Thursday, February 21 — 10 am to 5 pm
Fee: $145

Dina’s description: “I love abstract figures, and the best part about them is that they are easy to create and there are lots of fun ways to create them. Join me for this class, where we will explore several methods of creating our figures. Then we’ll incorporate them into finished journal pages and art pieces.”

“THE ART OF RESTRAINT”

Friday, February 22, 2019 — 10 am to 5 pm
Fee: $150

Dina’s description: “I always say one thing missing in mixed media is restraint. This class is all about doing less. We’ll focus on the power of line, brushstroke, and color to tell our stories instead of burying them under dozens of layers. Listen, I love layers, but it is good artistic practice to work with a limited palette of supplies. Artistic growth, here we come! This class includes a small 6×6″ journal, in which we’ll work during the class.”

“BEESWAX COLLAGE”

Saturday, February 23, 2019 — 10 am to 1 pm
Fee: $75

Dina’s description: “By special request, here’s a reprise of beeswax collage. This process is experimental, fun, and creates such interesting transparent layers that pictures don’t even begin to do them justice. We’ll play with Media Board, pure beeswax, and collage papers and tissues. We’ll add acrylic paint in between layers for interesting effects, and will even scratch into the wax to make marks. You’ll be hooked!”

“THE PAINTED FACE”

Saturday, February 23, 2019 — 2 pm to 5 pm

Fee: $75

Dina’s Description: “No drawing experience required for this face painting class…we are going to use stamped images and collage tissue. Easy peasy! I’ll show you my favorite ways to paint faces, using both acrylics and Scribble Sticks. We’re going for interesting art faces, not traditional and cute. Come with a sense of adventure and ready to play!”

Supply list for all classes.

• Basic tool kit: Ranger craft sheet, scissors, baby wipes, paper towels, paper plate or palette paper to use as a palette (or you can just use your craft sheet). You may also want a small notebook and a pen for taking notes.
• Your art journal.

Having a hard time getting your creative juices flowing? Want to steal an idea or two from other crafters? Just interested in having a good time with others while they work on their projects? Or just need a bit of time away from the other distractions in your life?

Those are all good reasons to join Runaway to Play, the 1^st and 3^rd Friday of each month. And, of course, you and the other Runaway to Play folks will have the store to yourselves after it closes at 7 pm. We’d love to have you join us!

Here’s how it works:

• Bring a project or two that you’d like to work on. We’ll provide the table space in the large classroom from 5 until 11 for $8 per customer.
• While you play, you will have access to the equipment in the studio. Please bring your own supplies (paper, inks, sprays, dies, and stamps.
• You also can take some time to shop in the store if there is something that would help you complete your project – after 6 pm, the store is open just for you!
• Check out what others are creating at play. You may get some great ideas and inspiration – Runaway regulars and staff are always happy to share paper crafting tips and tricks.

We usually have plenty of space, but let us know if you’re planning to come so that we can make sure we are set up for the numbers we will have. Please contact Christy or any Runaway staff member if you have questions.

Edgar Allan Crow and the Runaway gang wanted to make sure you had some info about our upcoming classes.

First, we still have room in Dina Wakley’s first class when she comes June 8 & 9 — and the waiting lists for the other two aren’t all that long (and we’re looking at ways to expand the classroom’s capacity just a touch), so you may still be able to get into those as well. There is more detail on her classes if you click the “Classes” tab.

Second, we want to remind you that Kendra Krebs comes to Runaway pretty regularly — and she is offering her wonderful classes about watercoloring the Art Impressions way in both April and May. You can see find that information on the “Classes” tab as well.

Finally, Copic^® artist and author Marianne Walker visited Runaway during our Copic^® Color Celebration. And we jumped at the opportunity to have her come back and teach some techniques from her “Copic^® Coloring Foundation” books. And you know where you can find that info? On the “Classes” tab, of course!
