Runaway is so excited to be helping our local friends at Artists in Action (AIA) this year with their annual “Outside the Box” auction! Our store will be the showcase for the auction items: fabulous handmade boxes. All of the boxes up for bid will be displayed in our front windows from July 13 – 18th, 2020.
Traditionally AIA holds its auction at the Salem Art Fair, but because of health concerns the fair will not be happening at Bush Park this year, rather it will be an online event! So the show must go on and the auction will be done virtually as well. For full details on what it’s all about and how you can participate, go to AIA’s website: https://artistsinaction.org/events/outside-the-box/
Be sure to see all of the creativity on display during the week of July 13th in our front windows and bid on your favorites! Once the auction begins, the bidding site will go live at: https://artistsinaction.betterworld.org/.
In consultation with Robin, we have decided to not hold Kaleidoscope Coloring Club or Drawing Night this month. Decisions about what will happen next month are waiting to see how things are going then. Edgar is happy to give Robin a month or two off so she can enjoy her yard and make some cool new drawings.
As for safety and health of our customers, to the degree possible, we are observing the 6 ft personal distancing, as recommended by the CDC and the Oregon Health Authority. The counters, tables, chairs, doors, restroom and other surfaces are cleaned regularly with disinfecting spray / wipes. Christy is still holding classes with only one person per table and we are not sharing supplies. Classes are limited to 5 people and disinfecting wipes are available.
We are always happy to see you, but Christy won’t be doing all her hugging and hand shaking. Hand washing has become a regular adventure. Lots of new products continue to go out on the floor from Creativation 2020.
Please let us know if you have any questions or we can help. Thanks Christy
Some amazing new stamps, dies and ink pads have made their way into Runaway! Christy ordered many items at Creativation and we’ll show you a some samples of cards and project made with some of the products.
First, we share some florals from Altenew. This company produces some beautiful stamps often featuring floral designs. Some of the stamp sets are designed for ink layering creating very gorgeous results, so you’ll want to check them out! There are also ink cubes that work beautifully with their stamps.
An Altenew stamp/die set now available at Runaway!
Penny Black is another company Christy visited at Creativation, where she purchased some lovely items including stamps, frame dies, watercolor stamps and much more. There are some really handy sentiment stamp sets that include many different sayings. Below is a sample showing the die itself (left) and a card showing this die and several stamps combined.

A cool new company called Stamplistic shared a collection of unusual animal stamps at the show, along with some patterned papers that are fun to stamp those images on. Some of them have landed at Runaway. There are dogs, cats and other domestic and animals on the wild side. You’ll want to check them out.

Of course an old favorite company, Lawn Fawn, had a big release of new stamps and dies, and many are available at Runaway. So many cute critters that are great to add to cards that are sure to cheer up the young and old! There are also some new interactive dies that are simple to put together.

And stencils make the world go ’round, right? The Crafter’s Workshop has a new release and you need to see them! Most are available in both 6″ X 6″ and 12″ X 12″ sizes. These stencils are so wonderful to use in art journals, altered books, for gel printing, or for a beautiful card background.

Run, don’t walk, into Runaway Art and Craft Studio to see these and many more newly released products! See you soon!
Come in and join us on Wednesday, February 5th between 12 noon and 4pm! Christy will be giving you a chance to see the InkTense® pencils and blocks in action – whether for making cards or illustrating journals! You will take home a finished background to use in your creations. We will have 25 spots for the hands-on event. Everyone participating in the demo will receive a free gift and special discount on the items Christy demos.
It’s inventory time! So Runaway will be closed Wednesday, January 1 so we can count EVERYTHING. But we’ll be open for business, just like normal, at 10 am on Thursday.
Last minute gift needs? We have good news! Your favorite papercraft and art supply store will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on Monday, December 23 and from 10 am to noon on Tuesday, December 24.
We won’t be open on Christmas (we aren’t quite that silly). And we will be back on our normal schedule (10 am to 6 pm, Wednesdays thru Saturdays, and 11 am to 5 pm Sundays) — except for New Year’s Day, of course. Because that is INVENTORY DAY!
Small Business Saturday specials all weekend (November 30 and December 1)! We have a big 12×12 printed papers sale. 40% off Authentique and Graphic 45 papers, 50% off all other 12×12 decorated paper.
We also have our “dot” sale going on with 30-70% off selected items — for example, almost all of our Dina Wakley stamps are either 30% or 40% off. Markdowns on stencils — including designs by Dina and by Seth Apter, among many others — stamps, ephemera, flowers, jewelry supplies, oil pastel sets, and more! Great prices on our Foil Quill sets at 40% off regular price.
Come by and support us both Saturday and Sunday — or just come by for a visit. We love our customers! Jessica will be starting to put up Christmas trees in the windows and Christy is playing with products all day long!
Runaway will be open during our regular hours this holiday season — so come by Wednesday thru Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm or on Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. We will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays (just like normal).
We also will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
Robin Bielefeld has given us some great inspiration for Runaway’s Inktober prompts. Runaway team member Kiah helped Christy Wood come up with a fantastic list of prompts. So the idea is to draw or use a stamp to create a card based on the following prompts. Please tag all of your posts #Runawayinktober2019 so we can find you.
Inktober is traditionally a challenge to encourage drawing everyday through October usually with a spooky, Halloween theme. But we are expanding our use of the “ink” to include stamping and coloring. For instance, we use ink to stamp and Copics or other markers to color.
Artwork is drawn by Robin Bielefeld and will also be for the next Kaleidoscope Coloring Club! The pic is for inspiration so don’t think any of the rest of us will be doing drawing like these! 🤣😂😇
